The effort we apply when practicing Dharma should be steady and consistent. If we practice intensely for a few days and then slacken our effort, our practice will have little power. Steady, continuous practice over a long period is more important than forceful effort for a short time. Sometimes we practice enthusiastically and energetically for a short time but, when we fail to accomplish results, we become discouraged and may even give up our practice altogether. Hoping for quick results in our practice is unlikely to bring success because unreasonable expectations create the cause of failure in any kind of training. We need to practice Dharma with consistent and enduring effort until we attain enlightenment.
